Chimp study shakes human family tree

By Stephen Cauchi

May 18, 2006 - 3:01AM

The very roots of the human family tree have been redrawn thanks to a groundbreaking study that has compared the genetic codes of humans and chimpanzees...

...Dr Groves said that even today it could be possible for humans and chimps to have sex and produce offspring, although there would be ethical problems.

I've always wondered about this.

If a guy sh@gged a dog, what would happen? Or if a dog raped a cat? Would it give birth to a genetic mutation or is that impossible thanks to some boring scientific reason?

You have to have species that are really closely related, genetically. We humans are within 3% of matching chimps.

Otherwise, there would be some serious ethical issues in Australia's hinterlands. Would it be okay to eat an eweman? Shocked

There's some boring scientific reason why it cannot happen.

However!~ Some woman is claiming to sell a new breed of "puppycats", see below:

That sucks. You've got to admit...it'd be cool as hell if there was a dog/human or a cat/dog born.

Granted it's actually named after his father, but I still smile everytime I see this.

Nah. That, if I'm not mistaken, is where the line is drawn. Animals/things that are truly different can't mate, but I forget at what level it is. I *thought* it was at the level of species, but maybe it's the next level up?

So, horses and donkeys, any cat with any cat, any dog with any dog.... maybe any primate??? It must differentiate at genus?

Like this hasn't happened before. *EWW!* Dogs may be our best friends and all, but there should be a certain limit/boundary to that love! Enough is enough. To all the sick people out there, leave those poor animals alone! Actually, there should be 11th Commandment in the Bible that could go something like this:

"Thou shall not poke thy poodle!"

Yeah, I remember a while back in the news where that poor woman was raped by a gorilla. When she was telling of her story to the authorities she was visibly upset, and understandably so.

But the odd thing was that as the investigation continued the fact came to light that she didn't report the incident for nearly two weeks.

When pressed on this issue the woman broke down uncontrollably. When she finally regained her composure she was asked again to fill in the details--why the late reporting, etc.

This time she couldn't hold back any more: "That son of a bitch hasn't called, written, no god damned flowers...nothing!"

from what i remember, a species is defined by what it can have fertile offspring with.

so a horse and a donkey, while two different species, can get together and create a mule. but a mule is sterile, so the rule stays in effect.

yeah, the chromosomes have to match up in order for the offspring to survive, which is why pig and elephant dna just don't splice

Like the T-shirt says, "Evolution begins at home".

I'm wondering about these ligers. Lions live in prides. Tigers live solo. It's in the genes. So what do ligers do? Grow up to be angst-ridden Woody Allens of the cat world?

Ya'll make me sick. Ya hear! Why is it that the average ESL Teacher has just enough brains to blow his/her nose, and little remaining to understand global politics. George W. Bush is a great American. He took decisive action to combat terrorism, so much so, that there has not been a follow-up terrorist attack on this nation since he vowed to catch and punish the perpetrators of 911. Where Vietman cost us 60,000 plus young men, he has limited American casualties to 2,500 in Iraq. He freed Afghanistan and Iraq from repressive regimes and democracy has taken a foothold. God Bless George W. They do make them big in Texas afterall. Amen. And, as for all you Clinton sticky-cigar-chewing faggots, BITE ME, and before ya'll respond with all your idiotic rhetoric.
