I got offered a summer camp position minus a visa. I'm not sure what to make of this and was hoping someone might have some advice or personal experience to offer. Anything would be appreciated.

Your on a tourist visa? It's illegal. If immigration finds out and tracks down the camp, you'll be the one who receives the lion's share of the punishment.

Tell them to stuff it.

Sounds like they will get a teacher for most of the camp (almost for free)... then when you get busted you get a stay in the immigration detention area until your deportation and the they save the cost of your wages.

Good deal for them... kinda sucks for you. The fine they pay is less than your wages and you will be in no position to fight for your lost / illegal wages.

Summer camps get raided on a regular basis by immigration looking for people doing just what you have been offered.

Best advice is don't. You have about a 75% chance to spend your vacation in lock-up.

Pro: actually getting paid for your work.
Con: getting busted by immigration.

Hey,

I went to korea on a tourist visa last year for a winter camp- C4 visa and it is legal to work. Unfortunately you get taxed about 25% as we later found out so youd be wanting the pay to be a bit higher than normal - or if money isnt an issue...its a really great experience for just a month! Good Luck!

So which visa was it, a tourist visa or a C-4 visa becuse they are not the same thing.

A C-4 visa is basically a short term work visa for summer and winter camps, not a tourist visa. If you had a C-4 visa then yes it ws legal but if you were on a tourist visa then it was illegal.

i think it depends on where the camp is more than anything. Yong-In area might be high heat. But way off in backwater kangwando you might be safe. someone said the odds of you getting caught is 75%. I think it's the other way around. But does that make it a risk worth taking? Most of the big established camps wouldnt offer this, so I'm thinking yours is a smaller one. i wonder about these camps that want to borrow teachers already on a visa. i've heard that this is illegit as well, and I wonder who these teachers are actually are in korea on these visas and not stuck in camp. EPIK teachers judging by the contracts dont get the summer off.
