I don't know how you manage putting up with the most damning of Korean flaws - K-Pop. If your music sensibilities say something about the state of your soul - I'm not sure how I'm supposed to deal with grown adults adoring the likes of Pi and 7seven.

If it's not a collection of Korean Ken or Barbies and the newest versions of line dancing then it's the originality of some Korean acts...

Take a look at THIS...and compare it with ...

this summer's K-pop classic rocking the dongs near you

If you're going to skirt the line between rip off and homage wouldn't you at least be discerning...

I know exactly where you're coming from, happeningthang, but it's ... Hyeon Yeong ... can't ... hate ... too ... beautiful ... can't ... hate ...

This the new mantra, then? Not sure how effective it will be.

There's just no accounting for taste, is there?

I hate it (almost as much as K food).

And my signature says (I'll reprint it here in case I change it) ...

Seoul Subway Rider: What do you think about Korean music?

Me: That'd be a good idea.

It came from the US, then it got the K- twist. More sugar, increasingly "child"ized, and even more mind-numbing fashion lunacy.

It's all garbage, no matter what the country. I find that "Maiah-hee, maiya-ha" thing perhaps more annoying than a whining dentist's drill, no matter where the origin.

There's another one spawned from BEP's "Let's Get Retarded" that just drives me nuts. I don't mind a good sample or cover from an 80's or 70's song, but at least wait until the original is out of radio rotation before you jack it.

Yeah ripping off stuff from the west and claiming it as your own. Man, there's a total lack of cool in this place.

I guess some of the really old old old Korean music is ok though? You know, the stuff without singing that 90-year olds were probably into back in the day?
