This has to be one of the wackiest ideas I've come across. Who the hell would choose to live in Khartoum??

Quote:
KHARTOUM: Wedged between the White and Blue Niles, a huge shimmering complex of glass and steel is set to rise from the heart of Khartoum, as the Sudanese capital seeks to leap into modernity. Sudan, the biggest country in Africa by area, remains beset by rebellion and humanitarian tragedies, but the Al-Mogran project epitomizes Khartoum's ambitions to become a regional business hub.

"Hotels, offices and villas will soon spring up from this land that had so far been used as a rubbish dump," said Hani al-Khidir, chairman of the Alsunut Development Co, which manages the project.

Land that's been a garbage dump. Even the onion couldn't come up with something like this. Truth is stranger than fiction, that's for sure.

Developer plans to make Khartoum a 'mini-Dubai'

Khartoum is really pretty nice. The war seems a world away, the people are cool, and the weather is nice.

Perhaps, but the net result may be that it'll begin to open things up a lot more as time passes.

that's really besides the point. It'd take a miracle to be a success for anyone, muslim or not muslim.
