I've had the hiccups for about four hours now. All my students have made fun of me (in a good natured way), and it's really annoying.
The 'cures' that have so far failed: my co-teacher has scared me half to death three times now. I've held my breath. I've chugged milk and water. I've tried drinking from a cup upside down.

Does this ever happen to anyone else? What do YOU do?

Drink from a cup upside down, but I find you have to stand and swallow a few times.

Tall glass of water with crused ice cubes, you must drink it very quickly like chugging a beer.

The holding of breath while drinking water, followed by some continued swallowing tends to work for me.

Here's a fairly new one I learned about a year ago from a former student:

Think of making a delicious sandwich. Start with two nice slices of bread, add some wonderful slices of turkey(or whatever), sprinkle some fresh-ground pepper on the meat, add some nice crisp slices of cucumbers and tomatoes, top it off with some fresh lettuce, and put a little mayonnaise on the top slice of bread before placing it on top of your creation. Before you cut the sandwich, your hiccups will be gone.

I thought she was crazy(A Korean talking about BREAD and SANDWICHES), but it actually worked for me too. I guess visualization is the trick.

Brown vinegar. Gulp down a mouthful and hold your breath for 20 seconds. Works for me every time without fail.

put a pair of chopsticks in an "x" over a glass of water, you should have 4 gaps, drink a sip from each gap - by the time you get to the 4th side, it should be gone

Don't worry too much. Four hours is nothing -yet....

Longest Attack of Hiccups
Charles Osborne (18941991) of Anthon, Iowa, USA, started hiccupping in 1922 while attempting to weigh a hog before slaughtering it. He was unable to find a cure, and continued hiccupping until February 1990, a total of 68 year!
Osborne led a normal life in which he had two wives and fathered eight children. The only discomfort from his hiccuping, he claimed, was the constant risk of losing his false teeth!

During the first few decades, he hiccupped up to 40 times a minute, slowing to 20 a minute in later years. He finally stopped in 1990 after an estimated 430 million spasms and died the following year.

Vinegar or, try this one, works for me every time

Grab your arm just beneath the elbow, the muscle on the outside of the top of your fore arm has a pressure point just there. Press/massage it hard for a minute or so. My wife showed me this one and its the shiznit.

First tried in grade two .... it has NEVER failed me, or anyone else who I've told about it.

Take one glass of water.

Drink and one mouthful of said water.

Hold the water in your mouth.

Keep holding it....

Firmly plug both ears...

Now swallow...

Repeat as neccesary, once is usually all it takes.
