I am moving to Daegu, Korea in about 3 weeks and I want to take a laptop with me to play games and communicate with home.

I have bought a CDN $1954 (including taxes) laptop that will play all my games and has a dedicated graphics card. It also has a numberpad, which I like, and a widescreen 17" monitor, which I also like.

The price tag has got me wincing however and I'm thinking of returning it in hopes of buying a slightly cheaper laptop in Korea.

Except, I'm a total noob when it comes to technological stuff!

So here are my questions:

1. Can I buy a laptop in Korea with a North American keyboard?

2. Can I buy a laptop with the graphics capabilities for my video games?

3. Can I play my Region 1 DVD-ROM disks on a Korean laptop?

4. If the above answers are yes (or at least 2 and 3 are, I can deal with a weird keyboard), how much are Korean laptops going for?

5. Or should I just deal with the huge price tag on my nifty new laptop and bring it with me?

6. And if I bring it with me, what kind of power adapters will I be needing?

Please help me out and answer the questions as non-technobabble as possible as I am dumb.

Thank you.

-Yes you can buy a machine here.
-A comparable machine will cost you about $2000 CAD here in Korea.
-If you buy a laptop here in Korea it will probably have Korean Windows on it. How are you with Korean Language menus? Laptops are a pain to covert to English windows if you are technologically impaired.
- Keyboards are the same - the ones here just have hangul superimposed on the keys along side the roman charactors.
-I didn't think that DVDroms had regions.
-You will need to spend $1 for a plug converter/cord. Available just about anywhere. Your power brick should be compatable (120-240volts and 50/60 Hertz).

Keyboards aren't exactly the same. A \ symbol will show up as a won (Korean money) symbol.

I've used a slip-on power adapter that I bought for 750 won (about 79 cents American) at a light bulb store with no problems in 7 months.

I'm not pm-ing you because everyone needs to know how to get around this ridiculous region thing. Flash your firmware with region-free software.**

**Since this can be damaging if it goes wrong, I've left my answer sufficiently muddy to weed out the people who shouldn't be doing this (who then screw things up and try to blame me).
