I'm going to be spending a week in KL at the end of the month, and I am looking for advice on things to do and see while I'm there. I have a wide variety of interests such as history, culture, nature, food, nightlife, and others. I'd love to hear about anything that people have enjoyed while visiting there. Also, do I need to get a visa before I go if I'm only staying for a week? Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can give. Feel free to PM me if you'd like.

If you're a US citizen, no you don't need a VISA.

In Kuala Lumpur...honestly, I didn't think there was all that much on the "touristy" list, I'd just get a tourist map and look at all the places, also, I say get a hop-on-hop-off bus tour, that way you can get a feel for the city, and see/get too all the major sites.

Petronas Twin Towers - Can't go very far up them (I didn't even bother), but they look cool

Beneth said towers, largest most high-end mall I've ever seen...(dwarfs anything in the US, and I've seen the best). Fun food court too, for lots of realtively inexpensive and different types of food.

Wild Bird Park (or something of that effect) - Netting keeps the birds in, it was kinda fun...check out the "petting zoo" section! It's some chickens in a cage, and one poor bunny in a pen...

National Mosque - Fun to see, spoke to a very helpful nun there who expained things nicely.

National Museum - kinda pathetic.

Nightlife I dunno unfortuantely, didn't get a chance...

I would say just go to the wikitravel.org page on it, and, when you're there, I like to take hop-on-hop-off bus tours around a city my first day, to get a feel for the place and see all the major tourist sites in 1-2 days.

All in all a very clean, modern city, I like the city a lot, except for the humidity...most insane weather I've ever experienced. I just finished college, and am still in an apartment w/out air conditioning, it gets over 100 in my room on the bad days, but that's nothing compared to Kuala Lumpur and the humidity! (at least when I was there)

The Islamic Arts Museum is good. Nightlife is centered around the Golden Triangle. That's where I would stay if I were you.

A week in KL? Might get a bit bored if you aren't working or have some non-tourist thing to do there.

KL is one of my favorite cities. I have several good friends there though, so I'm able to hang out with them while I'm there. I agree with bucheon_bum: while it's a good place to visit, there aren't that many must-see tourist spots. As soon as you get there, go to KLCC, the big mall at the Petronas Towers. Go buy a copy of the Insight pocket tourist guide to KL. (Unless you can find it here first.) It's the best (and only) guide to the city I've seen.

Depending on how much you can spend, stay in Bukit Bintang aka the Golden Triangle (a nickname no one there will use, most likely). There are several reasonably priced hotels. I like the Allson Genesis. The restaurants are generally outstanding, and you're a short cab ride from KLCC.

For shopping: KL is a big mall city, like Singapore and Bangkok. Lot 10 is cool. Times Square is massive but kind of cavernous. KLCC is a great place to start. You can kill almost a whole day there.

Worth doing: Visit the KL Tower and the National Mosque. Eat. Visit the Batu Caves, which are just to the north of the city and well worth seeing. Check out Bangsar, especially in the evenings. It's kind of like KL's version of Gangnam.

If you've got a whole week, consider a day trip down to Malacca, or some other quick overnight thing within the country or up to Thailand or something. AirAsia's hella cheap (and very good), and a week's probably more than you'll need to spend in KL.
