So I'm still trying to decide between 2 contracts, public school and private school. I just found out that the public school might (and I imagine probably will) send me to different locations to work. My contact person says that it will probably be at one school one week another school a different week. They will pay for the transportation fares and such, but that sucks and I should run from it, right?

Thanks for your advice and input in advance.

What does the contract say?

It's much more likely you will have to commute between two (or more) schools in a day than spend a week at any particular school.

I assume your 'contact person' is a recruiter - most are scum and will lie to you.

I teach at a public high school but have 3 middle school classes (in two different middle schools). By 'private' do you mean a privately owned 'public' school, or do you mean hakwon? A private school here is just like a public one, but privately owned. Not much difference in working environment. A hakwon is an entirely different set up.

If you go with the public school, ask now about the schedule. Will you be moving between schools during the day? If so, how far apart are they and how will you be travelling and how often?

I'm teaching right now at three schools. They're all in the same small town, and the only complaint I have about it is that there's not really that much time to get to know students. I only see each class once per week (when there are no cancellations, but there usually are), and it's been tough to guage their progress. It's really low on continuity, and it takes forever to cover anything because they usually forget week to week (because my coteacher covers different material). Not only is class hard, but kids rarely visit between classes because they are not used to me being around, even after several months. There are some who make an effort

My girlfriend teaches at one school four days a week and rotates between other area schools one day a week, seeing each school about once a month. She loves it, because it's very low pressure, and she can just play games and then leave, and no-one is hurt if she forgets their name.

One situation I would avoid is switching schools in the same day. One full day at a new place would be alright, but having to trasnfer from school to school could really wear on you.

I'm curious. Do any of you have mutliple work place endorsements on your ARC? If it's something as above board and obvious as more than one school, do you still need one? Or is it something laid out in the contract?

You should ask immigration if they are allowed to do that. When I first came here, in 2002, I met teachers working for hogwons who would send them to public schools 2 or 3 days a week. This was illegal. They could only have worked there if they, the teacher, had signed a seperate agreement with the public school. The school would then have had to have paid the teacher. THE HOGWON WAS NOT LEGALLY ALLOWED TO TAKE MONEY FROM THE SCHOOL.

I don't know how things are now and I know you're situation is different but you should ask immigration first about this. It may be that you have to sign seperate agreements with these other places. The public may not be aware of this.
