Sorry for the slanty pages, I used a digicam.
I saw a post where someone said every new teacher should post their contract. So, here's the contract I've accepted. I've already signed it and the visa is in the works. Nothing seems out of order to me. The number of hours is a bit high, 35 per week, but apart from that it looks like a good deal. I'm getting a free ticket, free apartment and one months bonus at the end of 12 months. I like the fact I'll be working later in the day. I love to sleep late and go out at night. 2.3 Mil per month and the possibility of a performance based raise every 3 months.
Input is appreciated |

Illegal penalty clause for being late.
screw the teaching session nonsense.....the contract is for 365 days, no more no less! Get that in your contract! Clear start and finish dates!
Whats their definition of a teaching hour>? 35 hours a week is exceptionally high!
They can change the hours you work at their whim...very bad!
2.3 mil for 30 hours is okay.....for 35.....thats 20 more hours a month than a standard 2 mil for 30 hours ....at 20,000 won an hour overtime they are ripping you off of 100,000 won a month! Not such a great deal!
clause 11b is ridiculous to the extreme!
clause 11c tells you that your 35 hours a week just jumped up another 10 + hours a week!
11e sounds like they will be making you stick around for extra work for no pay!
I'd pass on this loser! |

just so you know, it's standard and everybody gets the free ticket, apartment, and the bonus at the end of the year (severance pay).
other than that, it looks pretty standard to me. i dont see what the other dude was complaining about. |

its pretty standard all right,,,,,standard hogwan crap contracts.
35 hours a week whenever they want them +prep time+ marking+ writing report cards
no definitioin of a teaching hour....if you are teaching 40 minute classes thats 52.5 classes a week more than 10 a day.....standard crap!
Its better to be thought a fool than to open up your mouth and confirm it! |

I'm with Mr. Grotto here. That contract is crap. IF it was just 35 hours a week without the extra duties...then MAYBE. But you are looking at (at least) 45+ hours a week with all that other nonsense. Everyday you have to assign and grade homework, OUTSIDE the class hours. Plus evaluations plus regular quizzes and tests (which you will probably have to write up from scratch) plus report cards (probably monthly). Plus prep time (probably another 5 hours weekly right there)
And I don't see anything about pension. |

I'm with Grotto and UM, this looks like it'd be a pretty brutal job. SInce they expect you to do 35 hours a week, you'd basically be working 2-9pm with no break. With the amount of extra marking and whatnot you'd be doing they'd have you working like a slave.
The pay is a little better, and the overtime rate is unusually high, but these people obviously want you to work like a dog for that money.
Otherwise, the contract looks pretty standard. |
