Thank Christ for this outcome. Although I do wonder how many repeats they'll have of the Togo-Korea game before the next WC.
The Swiss deserved it--Korea never really showed up for this tournament, and it'll be something of a much-needed reality check, so it's not all bad.
On the other hand, who else besides me was interested in seeing a Spain-Korea matchup? |

Yeah. Poor Togo. They will be defeated time and time again for 4 years.
On the other hand, they have only 3 goals to replay again and again. |

In all honesty, I was dying to watch that match up. |

The sad thing is that that match will never ever make it on to Korean television again. Anyone have a recording of it? |

I supported Korea, and frankly I'm glad to see an early exit. A thorough and embarrassing pummeling by the Spanish was in store, had they advanced, the way they were playing.
A different story altogether against Ukraine but as Greekfreak said, Korea never really showed up for the tournament. |

We have a copy, but I'm sure it'll get destroyed when we get home (before I have a chance to watch it). |

Dick ADVOCAAT (KOR)
We are very disappointed with the result. The Swiss were better in the first half, but they have stronger players playing in big teams and you saw the difference that this makes in the first half. They controlled the game in the first period but in the second half we pressurised them and we deserved more than the nothing we got. We were close but not close enough. The Swiss deserved to win today probably, but we had some bad luck too. The Korean team did very well point-wise. Four points is a big haul and we have nothing to be ashamed about. We were too polite early in the game, but with seven players playing in the Korean league the fact that we came this close is a testament to our play. We had to win today, so I brought in an extra attacking midfielder and in the end we played with five strikers and took a risk. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. Tonight it didnt work. The Korean league needs to improve in order for the national team to move forward. I am too upset to think about my own future at this moment. I will think about that later.
This is the second article in which he's commented on the lowly status of the K-league being a factor or Korea's loss. Had they won, he would have been bragging about it. |

| Poor Dick Advocaat won't have the next 4 years to pocket wads of won advocating for Korean products. At least he won't have to make the tough choice between keeping his Dutch citizenship and accepting the enticing offer of Korean citizenship... |

it's started ALREADY!!!
People in my neighbourhood have ALREADY started to get angry and Diick Advocaat and the ref.
Like F*** I couldn't be bothered to get up early to watch it but I can ALREADY guess that the Korean team was subpar.

| Blaming the coach isn't all that unreasonable. Teams, countries always blame the coach when it goes wrong, and not without foundation. The coach is responsible for the team - tactics etc. Don't all have a fit if the nasty, xenophobic Koreans blame the coach for a bad performance in the WC. If they blame him because he's foreign then that's different, but there's nothing inherently amiss with blaming the coach. |

Me. Spain had it in for Korea. Guess we'll have to wait for 2010. Maybe they'll be in the same group.
I know not much about soccer, but the game reminded me of the one against Germany in 2002. Korea learned nothing from it. They did their best and hogged the ball some, but they had not a clue how to break the Swiss defence. It's like they didn't do their homework. I had the feeling they were relying on a free or penalty kick or two. |

| Yeah the ref's are being blamed already. I don't know how that's possible. Korea sucked, big time. The Swiss should go through to the quarters at least, they're an excellent squad. Can't wait for Brazil-Ghana btw. |

A very good point.
Until Koreans start realising football happens more than one month every four years then Korea will continue to have a mediocre national team.
You need a competitive local league to hone players. To give them world class experience. You need to have some money in that league to attract the best players and make it something young guys with talent will aspire to.
At the moment we have a situation where the Korean and Asian club champions, Suwon F.C.(I think they still are. At least they were last year.) get around 2000-3000 attendence most weeks. Other Korean clubs get less. |

Games 1 and 2 he was a genius for the great substitutions and strategy.
About the supposed offside goal:
In the 77th, Frei rounded the goalkeeper to score. The lineman flagged for offside, but the referee ruled that a Korean defender had played the ball to Frei. 100% CORRECT. http://soccer.sportsnet.tsn.ca/news_story/?id=306
All is even anyway...In the France game they got away with a goal the ref didn't count but the Swiss goal was legit. Obviously Koreans won't see it that way. Still, if the 2nd goal doesn't count it is still 1-0 Swiss. |
