| I'd love to see the Rothko exhibition. His works are amazing when seen at full size. I've seen some stuff of his in galleries in Chicago and Houston (if I remember right). I guess the Samsung museum is the same as the Leeum? I haven't been there yet. But I remember reading that only on Thursday could you go without a reservation. (Well, it's Thursday today.) Anyway, I'll google it later. |

Its the same place. Its not a bad museum at all, fairly recently set up(just last year perhaps?)
The exhibition is currently in Hong Kong but a friend who saw it there said it was poorly lit.For example, shadows falling across paintings. If its lit well-especially not overlit or directly spotlighted it could be a fantastic exhibition. This tends to be a big problem with exhibitions that I've seen in Seoul. For example a James turrell installation was drastically underlit.,it was merely meant to be very dimly lit. There's a funny story that Rothko would often wait until the gallery staff had left before turning the lights down a bit.
Not sure yet which particualr works there will be,the national gallery has a truckload of his works.
You just need to send them an email or give them a call the day before.
I saw just a few of his works in New York, and when I was in london the rothko room at the Tate had been put into storage for the (then)ipcoming Tate Modern.Bit of a pisser as i'd studied Rothko a lot for postgrad art history in New Zealand.Anyways,I'm really looking forward to it. |

It is fantastic that someone decided to make this sort of information easily available. I know that the big shows are easily accessible with enough publicity but anything else seems to be a case of happenstance, if you are lucky. Thanks for the information on Rothko-I didn't know his work was to be shown in Seoul.
Does anyone have any information about art and exhibitions in Ulsan??
I know, unlikely, but it can't hurt to try. |

A friend just sent me the information last week so I haven't been to either yet. I don't know if the tour will be in English or Hankuk-mal, but I would assume (I know, I know, when you assume... ) that it will be in English. I will miss this months art tour exhibition (I have to work that Saturday) but definitely want to check out next months. If anybody makes it to this months, let me know how it is please! |

Rothko?! Cool. I will be so looking forward to that.
Thanks, too, for the information about the art tours. I'll look into that once I get back from vacation in July. |

There is currently a Paul Klee exhibition (of his work on paper...) at Seoul Olympic Art Museum (near Monchontoseong Station, subway line 8, exit 1) that runs through July 2.
I hope that I can get over to check it out since his work was one of my early inspirations (along with Picasso, Kandinski, Ernst and the New York School of artists - including Rothko - though I don't care much for minimalism...) |
