Any others witness any verbal scraps today at school in Jeollanamdo??

This morning I came into the office and it was insanity teachers screaming at eachother and the vice principal. I quietly sat down and listened to the barage of shouting that lasted about 25 minutes or so.

I asked one of the teachers what it was all about and they said that the VP and the Principal are telling the Kteachers that they must come into work once a week throughout the summer vacation.

Needless to say the kteachers don't like that so much.

Everything seemed to go back to normal throughout the morning but then at 11:40 after the students finished there last exam the VP stands up. She proceeds to b*tch out and shout out loud at the Kteachers for another half hour. Then several teachers stoodup to voice there displeasure of the whole thing.

I just finished lunch and the office is very quiet and the VP just pulled about 7 teachers into another room and I can hear the screaming once again.

I wonder what the deal is??

The deal is North Koreans have obviously taken over the Educational Departments across South Korea. What better way than make sure the children get crappy educations Wink

Actually, I am starting to wonder. Some of my teachers are the same (for less than the absolute stupidity of coming in once a week).

I am the only foriegn teacher here and besides doing a one week camp I will not be coming to the school during summer vacation.

I have heard now that apparently it is because they have to write some kind of a report for the county educational office about the previous and upcoming semesters.

Lucky you Inspector Gadget. I only get two weeks off over the summer break, what with one two-week summer camp and a one week one. and I had to fight to get that those two weeks to run concurrently.

Now I am just waiting to see what will happen in the winter vacation.

You poor thing. I work for a public school in Incheon and get ZERO days off unless I use vacation days. I only get 14 of those per year. That means I have to come into an empty school, sit on my a$$ and watch movies or surf the net all day during both summer and winter vacations. What a waste of time. Maybe I should look for a new gig next year as others' situations seem to be much sweeter than mine!!

Kiwiliz, you got it sweet!! Don't complain.

There has been a bit of fighting between the Korean teachers and the principal at my school as well but over different reasons. The students at my school live in dorms and only go home twice per month. Now the parents have banded together and pushed for making the students stay here 3 weeks per month so the principal is toying with the idea and the Korean teachers are not happy with it because hey, they already spend 2 weekends per month already here.

I don't get it. The two days the kids get to go home does wonders for their sanity while two extra days of "self-study" (ie. staring blankly at a book for hours on end) per month will likely mean zero in doing well for the university entrance exam.

I once witnessed a physical scuffle between two female teachers after they
had been screaming at each other for a quarter of an hour. It consisted of slapping
arms and faces, kicking shins, grabbing collars, and scratching. The principal
and vp just stood there watching these two hysterical women along with the rest
of us, as a few male teachers and I chuckled until the vp called the phys ed teacher
to break them up after a few minutes. Cool

What is it about the Phys Ed teachers?
They seem to do everything at my school too.
