Summer session is coming fast. WHee.....(not) We have to put on a musicial. Lovely. Has anyone put on a musicial, with kids who want no part of it?

We have the wonderful choice of any musical we want. We also are lucky; we have to find (or write) the script.

All the kids talk about , are dying, killing some one, or fighting.

Does anyone have any usefull ideas? And tying up the kids and singing war chants is not an option.

They'd surely get a kick out of this musical.

In my first year I did "The Sound of Music" with a class of six year olds. But I had them two hours a day five days a week, and always did a lot of singing with them, so we had heaps of time to practice. Of course it was a stripped down version, just the best songs, some actions, and a few words of dialogue. I worked my behind off with that class. They performed it on my last day, and I actually cried during it. When I first met them they couldnt utter a word, didn't know abc, and here they were doing "When you read you begin with a, b, c, when you sing you begin with do re mi..." etc. So heart wrenching. That showed me what can be done with the intensive way they approach study here. Two hours a day five days a week as compared to half an hour once a week here in Japan. No wonder the difference in English ability is becoming more and more striking...

When I saw the subject heading I really thought you were recruiting people from Dave's to put on a musical with a hagwon-related theme. That would be so cool! I'm a terrible singer, but I'd be in the audience for sure.

Some classic story the kids (and parents) already know.
Snow White's got a lotta parts for the less talented and is easy to ham up.
