Background: BSME, BSPhy, MSAE, indirect teaching and tutoring experience but none in Korea and no ESL. Job is for YES (yes, i know...) in Mokdong. I've talked to 2 teachers who both really like it although the workload during the intensive period (8 weeks) i guess can be a little high. Utils in the new officetel run $150-280/mo, which seems high to me?? Thanks...

I read it briefly, but...

BAD

come in 2 hours before classes
around 4 outside of school hours activities
10 - 12 hours in workshops outside of working hours for 4000 and hour
10 vacation days at employers convenience
if you want cash for the ticket home, you only get 500000 won

GOOD
the salary is good 2,200,000
15 hours required summer overtime might be good or bad, depending on you

#15 30 days written notice is good, and even better is the fact that in the contract they say they will issue a letter of release. That is GREAT.

#3 sounds good. They know they can't farm you out without permission. They know immigration laws. This could be good or bad Wink

#8 Housing sounds good. 400000 in lieu is good and in comes with aircon.

#9 resigning bonus or ticket is sort of nice

I think you can do better than Youngdo. The one I worked in not only did you have to do report cards, but you also had to a mid-month progress report. They cram 14 kids in classrooms.

They also have a handbook they try to make a part of the contract. It adds some stuff that should not be there. But they don't give it to you until after you arrive in Korea. Where I worked the dinner break was 15 minutes long. Working from 2 to 10 with 15 minutes to eat dinner is not my idea of a good place to work. I think for a first time teacher Youngdo is not a good place. The branch I worked will take advantage of that.

I know people like Youngdo, but like I said I think you can do better then Youngdo. There is too much non-teaching work for the money. This is my opinon, they are a big school. So they are bound to have rogues like me....

I wish you all the best in finding a school.
