I worked in a private elementary school last year and it was really a cakewalk. I kind of regret not staying on. I had all the vacation times paid without any camps, and there were tons of times when I had almost a week off due to some school function where classes were canceled. Previous to this school I worked in another private elementary school through an agency, and the vacation times were not paid, and if I had canceled classes I had to stay at the school regardless and pretend to do something (basically I just played solitair on the computer if my lesson plan was complete).
Anyways, I am pondering working in a public school again with EPIK if I can't find a private elementary school, and with regards to the contract and the actual reality of the working conditions, I just wonder if most of you found it much less demanding than the contract makes things sound or maybe even more demanding. Did the school have lots of canceled classes and days where you were not required to stay at the school? Did you end up with much more than the two week vacation time in the contract? What time are you usually done for the day? |
