Well, in football anyway.
As I was watching the news this morning, among the 16 teams who didn't qualify, Korea was rated at the top. It's not as good as actually going through to the next round but, hey come on, we're talking about some pretty good football here. The report said Japan was 25th and Togo 30th. They didn't show the complete list.
This is probably good news for Advocaat. He has a lot of fan support in Korea so I hope he continues to coach the squad. |

The Czechs were ranked 2nd coming into the tourney.
Only Koreans would rank Korea's team ahead of them. |

I don't think it means FIFA rankings. I think it's talking about their placement in the tourney. As Korea did have 4 points (1-1-1) and that is the most of any team not to advance, they came in "17th place" in the WC finals. For some reason they do actually calculate the placement of every team. I believe the States tied for 25th.
By the way, the Czechs only had 3 points. |

They also had a tougher group. Really Korea's group was one of the easiest in the whole world cup. You had a France team that wasn't high on confidence, a Swiss team that still isn't as strong as Europe's other good teams and one of the worst African teams in the Tournament. |

Flak knows what I'm talking about.
Advocaat has a chance to turn this program around for the better. I would be nice if he could renounce his agreement with Russia and stay onboard.

No kidding.
Fact: The Korean team predicted 3 easy wins.
Fact: Korea bombed out in one of the easier groups.
Fact: Korea have sunk from 29 to 31 in the rankings (IMHO that's generous).
That said there may be a couple of half-decent players on the team, and they happen to be the most humble too (Park Ji-song comes to mind, not great, but not bad either.)

They didn't come in 17th really though. If you calculate the fact that other teams like Japan had to play higher ranked teams like Brazil. Nothing can change that they're 31 in the world. The Koreans are just being their usual We are the best at something. In this case they're saying "WE'RE THE BEST AT LOSING". Yes they are. |

Know where I can check out the whole list of 17-32? |

Fact is: KFA made a bad choice only keeping Advocaat for the World Cup. They should have asked him to stay on board longer.
Korea's new coach:

People keep saying the group was weak. Let's wait and see how the French and Swiss fare before we say that with too much confidence. Anyway, it doesn't matter. That is the nature of a tourney. The teams involved do not face the exact same level of competition. Even in the NCAA tourney people will always discuss which bracket is the toughest or which is the easiest. Korea did come in 17th regardless of whom they played.
EDIT: Well, I see the Swiss lost. Perhaps the group was weak, but Korea still placed 17th. |

First place or last place.
It's not how you play the game, it's whether or not you win. |
