I don't recall a thread on this. Just curious about how many different lesson plans you have to make.

Public schools:
You teach 22 hours a week. How many separate lessons do you prepare?

I can re-cycle a few of mine, so I do 14 preps a week.

Hakwons:
You teach 30 hours a week.

Good question

I use a 1:1 ratio. 1 hour of teaching takes one hour of preparation.

Although that is not always so. It is just a guideline.

About 12. But I see each class about twice a week, so most lesson plans are just a continuation of the previous one.

I read the teachers guide and prepare any materials that I need extra. I also teach 35 classes a week. So I am so fucking tired that my prep time is non existent now. Plus open classes suck up so much of the time.

I work at a public middle school and do 18 45 minute classes a week.

I teach 3 grades and only teach each child once so i only have to do 3 lesson plans a week. Though by the end of the week these plans often change as new things are brought up in each class so i adapt them into the plan for future classes.

Pretty sweet deal, i think.

On a side note in my classes (30ish students) there seems to be commmon thread that about:

1) 5-7 are super keen to learn and answer mostof the questions

2) 5-7 who do not do anything and as my co-teacher says i should not bother with them. I.e. just make sure they don't make a racket

3) and the remaining 15ish who are there but sortof stuck in the middle.

Is this what it is like in your classes?

How do you handle the ones who do not want to be there. Do you not worry about them as my co teacher tells me to do?

Also, other than surf the net, what do you do when you are not teaching? Eg, for the next 4 school days i do not have any classes(school tests) but have to turn up to school. Yes it sounds like a sweet deal but really.. four straight days.....

Ah well back to surfing the net

Same same. I do 23 classes a week, teaching grade 1,2 and 3. I only see each class once a week, so I basically do 3 plans per week. But like you said, by the end of each week the plan is tweaked somewhat. I noticed that the first 2-3 (for example) grade 1 classes take a full 45 minutes. By the end of the week, the same lesson will be finished in 20mins! The situation with my co-teachers varies too, with some I have to plan the whole thing, with others I am simply an 'assistant'...

You could try what my co-teacher did with the Grade 2 boys who had no interest--send them to the DVD room to watch a movie every day for two months.
