Many centuries ago, everyone was poor. They had no form of recreation except war. Every once in a while, some important warlord would be captured and beheaded. Since there was no form of recreation, the people would take his head and try to kick it in a goal.

Football (soccer) is still very popular in most of the poorer countries. You don't need anything to play football. You don't need pads or helmets or anything else that costs a dime. All you need is a severed head (ball) to kick between a couple of posts.

And that, my friends, is why football is so popular. It is the world sport.
