How much money (US$) per month should I have while I'm looking for work? I'll be mainly in Busan and the surrounding areas although I wouldn't pass up a good job elsewhere. I'm hoping it won't take longer than a month to find work, but I'd like to be prepared just in case.

I was unemployed for six weeks last summer, stayed mostly at friends' places, and spent about W1,500,000; however, that included some fun and a lot of travel, including an exit order trip to Japan. I'd want to have at least W1,000,000 for a month. Cheap hotels will cost you W20-30,000 / night. If you're hanging around cheap hotels in Busan, especially close to the train station, you'll likely be mistaken for a Russian hooker on numerous occasions.

How safe is it to leave your luggage in W20-30,000 rooms?

Very safe. I'd take valuables and my camera with me, but most yogwans (cheap hotels) are perfectly safe. Some don't have very good locks on the door, but theft is very uncommon here. I'd only be worried if there were a lot of foreign backpackers around.
