If you mean in a position advertisement, as in stating that a certain skill is "preferred", then what it would mean is that aside from the mandatory qualifications, the company would rather hire someone with this preferred skill, instead of having to spend the money, time or resources in training them up on it.
It would be a skill that could make or break the hiring decision -- but, if the only one person who has this skill or quality they are preferring is not the right person for the job in many other ways, they may be willing to overlook it and hire someone else instead, choosing to train instead.
I'm not sure where the legal aspect of your question comes in, so I may have misinterpreted what you mean. |
