| How exactly does the selected listening port affect one's downloads on Bit Torrent, specifically in Bit Comet? I see that I can select a port from 1 to 65535 and I wonder if a higher, lower or random one is best. |

Makes no difference whatsoever. Usually bittorrent uses 6381-6389 ??? Ports below 1028 are usually taken by applications initiated by root.
Why do you have to chose a port ? Your bittorrent application should do that for you. |

Yeah, I don't have to select a port, as it is automatically done for me (as you said). Just curious how changing it might affect my downloads.

The more ports you have open, the better chance you have of maximizing peer conections. It gives more people more ways to connect to you.
I'm using the original BitTorrent client. It is advised that you leave these ports open: 6881-6889, 49152. |
