Something distinctly weird has happened to my MS Office applications... when I try to open Word (or a Word document), Excel, etc... it says it first needs to install components for "this user", runs a search, and then tells me it can't find the needed file: PROPLUS.msi
Then I'm forced to cancel the "installation" because Office is not "set up for this user".
Which is all BS because I've used these programs plenty of times, just not in the last three months or so. Anyway, I searched my system and couldn't find this file, so now I'm stuck.
Is this some kind virus, perhaps? Just speculating...
I'd reinstall it, but I'm not sure I have the disks -- the programs were pre-loaded when I bought the computer off a friend last year. |

So many programs now use the "installer" type packages now - the .msi stuff ...... well many applications can use the same installer and if you uninstall some other application you may affect another because of a deleted file and so on. It does happen. For example, now, some people have the programming set so that if you go into a folder and delete one of the readme.txt files, or a readfirst.txt or even the LICENSE.TXT file, the next time you run the application you will get an error and it will ask for the installation disks to reinstall it ...... LAME !
You're really not likely missing the file it tells you, it's looking for that file to then go get another .... it's tricky, but easily fixed
You may have likely deleted or uninstalled some application that is now affecting another, in this case Office.
The easiest way is, of course, to pop in the CD when it asks for it so it can grab the file it needs. In fact, there is really likely nothing wrong with your Office installation and it's trying to fix an error in a log somewhere because a file that was pointed to is missing from another installation.
You need the CD ... or you can get the CD from the internet and actually get the program to it and act as if you have the CD .. The office CD itself is widely available on the internet ... I have it if you want it
Also, you may try to reinstall what you uninstalled (if you actually did have this happen) and you'll find you may likely fix the problem
It really is a minor issue, nothing major don't worry, it isn't a virus or that kind of thing really ....
Contact me via PM if you want it ...... what version, etc and I can help |
