I just found out from a Korean adult student that a "ya-ta" man is a rich guy in a car beckoning others in.
Sounds like a perv but is meant to signify a rich man.

"Ya" means "hey."
"Ta" means "get in". Though, in the case of boys, it usually means "get on," as in "get on my moped." |

Yeah, I deliberately mis-punctuated my ID. It really should be "Ya, ta!" but I didn't want to give it away entirely when I changed my ID 3 1/2 years ago.
I've never gotten a clear explanation of the difference between Ya, ta Boys and the Orange Tribe. If anyone has one, I'd like to hear it. |

There are several theories to the origins of "O-ran-gee JJok," most having to do with the expensive price of oranges in Korea in the 1980's. One theory is that rich boys, hanging out at the Da-Bang, or nightclub, or wherever, would send over a glass of orange juice to the girl he wanted to pick up on. Another theory comes from Orange County, California, a place that a lot of Korea's suddenly rich immigrated to when real estate boomed in the 80's. |

A couple of times a year I've received PMs about my ID. They come from people who are a little bit incensed at the meaning and the conflict with my age. You would think they were hanging out on street corners hoping I would drive by and pick them up and are blaming me for their disappointment that it ain't gonna happen according to their fantasy. |
