The director of a school I've applied to will ring me next weekend and she gave me some specific topics that I will be asked about. Most are obvious but some I couldn't possibly know. So can some of you fine gentlefolk provide some info?

The topics are and I quote :

Korean culture you know , way of teaching for asian students. good teaching method(conversation class, phonics, words expression..),..
the way to encourage shy and unparticipated students...

I know what good teaching method is (TEFL cert. is good for something) and I have some idea how to encourage shy students. But I have no idea what the way of teaching for asian student is and I don't know much about Korean culture except what I read about in the Lonely Planet guidebook. Any tips on the other topics are also very welcome.

A: Korean children are like most children. You must be entertaining to keep their attention. Since, their language capability is limited, you must be very patient and never criticize them for trying. For shy students, you must use a gentle approach and encourage them to speak by giving them a little more attention.

You must stand up and walk around during class. You should use direct eye contact when asking students questions. But, children should not use eye contact with you, it is disrespectful. They must not use any Korean at all, for most hogwans. You should help them convery their ideas in English. Some directors are very idealistic and superficial.

Hopefully this can help.
