Okay, so this is sort of random, but where I live in the States, we have these huge, brown, disgusting cockroach-type bugs known as water bugs. Well, everyone around here knows that in the extreme humid heat of summer, one or two always seem to find their way into our homes. It got me to wondering what sort of creepy crawlies make themselves known in Korean homes/apartments (and of course this doesn't insinuate that you or I live like slobs; anyone with any common sense knows that bugs are just a small part of life).
So? What's to be had in Korea? Anything aside from the norms here (ie ants, geckos, roaches, etc)? |

동양하루살이(Ephemera Orientalis).... Sometimes they used to literally cover the entire areas and block passages. I'm not sure if they are still thriving in a place like Seoul...

The "mehmees" (cicadas) will be here soon, although not creepy crawly and most likely one will never get into your apartment, but those buggers are so loud they can stop you from sleeping most nights. |

There are long reddish brown things with a gazillion legs that are creepy as heck and are mildly poisonous. They mainly live outside but do come inside sometimes.
If you catch and dry them, they are good for stamina, but then, what isn't? |

You have to keep a look out for these guys (not sure what they're called). Found this specimen when I pulled back the blanket to get into bed last night.

Just go to an expat bar and you will see lower lifeforms that you didn't see possible
Completely hijacking this thread, how many other people's students have pet beetles? All of my students have some (either the pincher ones or the nose horn ones). |

I've not noticed anything. There are some weird little black flies. And I'm currently in a war of attrition with some fruit flies. But nothing freaky.
And I sure hope the above aren't famous last words. |

Empty the trash. That will solve that little problem. |

I did see a huge rhino beetle lying belly up and being devoured by ants the other day. Not nearly as big as the pic the joker posted above, but about the size of an adult man's thumb.
I also saw an earthworm the other night crawling across the street that was a foot long. Wish I had a camera. |

There's one that comes in the night and attaches itself to your balls. |
