Can anyone recommend a decent (fairly cheap) hotel/motel/hostel near the airport in Bangkok?
We arrive at 12:35 am and our flight to Phuket leaves at 10:45am. We were hoping to crash for a few hours so our vacation doesn't start with us feeling exhausted. We want to be fairly close to the airport so we don't have to worry about traffic in the morning.
Any suggestions?

Not sure if this will help but the airport is not very close to Bangkok, your looking at a 45 minute cab ride as I recall.

I think your best bet would be to try a hotel at the airport.

That time of day it won't take you more than 30 minutes to get down into the Sukhumvit area - where there are loads of very decent - and relatively inexpensive hotels. Coming back - plan on an hour - but you might do it in less. Ask your taxi driver to take the "Tollway" (cost B60) - but saves LOTS of time.

Not really much around the airport except a very expensive Airport Amari - and several overpriced dumps.

Check out the Sukhumvit areas on this hotels page:

Ah god bless overpriced dumps.

There's your list.

I stayed in the Comfort Suites there once.

Right at the end of the runway so you'll get woken at about 7 when the first flights start to take off for the day.

It's about 2 star, a little run down but very close and they have a shuttle.
