What do you lot know about on-line universities? Starting a second degree while I'm in Korea might be a good use of my spare time. Are they reputable or are they basically a waste of money for housewives and shut-ins? The information websites are confusing to say the least.
If anyone has some experience with it, I'd appreciate the input. How much do they cost, etc?
Thanks!

There are a number of threads that you may be able to find on this topic if you search, but you may not since search is a little inefficient.
Anyhow I, and several of my friends and colleagues, have taken a distance MA in applied Linguistics via Macquarie university. WHile it wasn't perfect it was useful and educational to me. Prices change year by year so you'd need to find thier web site and look for it. I'm sure if you google you'll also find a review or two of thier program.
When I initially started there I was a little concerned about distance education and wanted to be sure I was going to a legit school so I asked some Australian colleagues and they told me that it is a legit school (one of the top schools). Another thing that convinced me was that you have the option to switch mid-way through the program and continue on campus.
There are several other good distance programs I have heard of including leeds. One to avoid however is USQ as they are getting a reputation as a degree mill. I know a couple of past students who said they always got a good grade even if the assignments they submitted were crappy. |

Whatever you do, don't stop there.
Superhero, you might have been lucky, but I know others that weren't.
I worked as an admissions counselor for the online division of a regionally-accredited (regional accreditation is the highest standard in the US) university for a few years before I moved to Korea.
You absolutely must, must, must do your homework on this. Asking your buddies or finding out that there is a brick and mortar campus isn't good enough if you're considering such a major investment. Especially keep in mind the country in which you'll end up living.
I worked with students who had invested thousands of dollars into a "legit" degree that had lame accreditation, and they basically had to start all over again. The quality of education means nothing without the accreditation to back it up. |

Seoulsucker,
good point and yes I did days and days of research before I narrowed the field down to 2 or 3 schools. |

Good for you. Really, though.
I had to deal with a lot of people going for graduate degrees, and telling them that the 4 years and thousands of dollars they spent weren't worth the paper the diploma was printed on wasn't a lot of fun. |

To be honest, I would suggest avoiding all Australian universities. Not all of them are bad, and some are good, but they all are starting to get a bad name because of the degree mills, and I wouldn't want one that even if it was perfect had a stigma associated with it. |
