I've downloaded some zip files with Limewire and I can't figure out how to play them. I downloaded winzip but it still won't play the file. Help?!

Laughing

Sorry....play zip files....heh....

.zip files are compressed folders that need to be extracted or expanded. I use Winrar for this, but others use 7-zip or even freebyte zip. Install one of them and then right click on the .zip files and choose where to extract them.

After extraction, there will be a folder of the same name...open that, and the real file will be inside.

It's only in Limewire until it has finished downloading. Once it has finished downloading you can go to the folder where all your other Limewire stuff goes to and open the file there. Then unzip as described.

Ok, did that...now what do I do in the 'extract to' box?

Wow. I think you need to download the file first. It's "in" Limewire? Yeah...it sounds like the file is listed on the network and free for you to download.

I don't use Limewire, but probably there is a button or option somewhere to download that particular file. Do that, wait for it to finish and then follow my previous post.

May I ask what the file is? Not being nosey, but sometimes, if people are unaware that a certain program is freeware

The files on the network (Limewire, Edonkey, etc...) are listed as what kind of file they are....zip, .avi, .iso, etc... but they are indeed still on the network and not in your possession yet.

Where do you want the folder? "My Documents" will probably suffice. Find that folder in the "Extract to...." menu and click OK> Then go to that new folder and look inside.

Usually, I create a folder in the myshared folder that has the zipped file and then extract to that folder with winrar. then you can move the folder wherever you want. You can also choose extract here, but if a zip has a whole bunch of files, they're likey to make a big frigging mess spilling out everywhere like Raquel Welch's cleavege in some 60's sex romp.

heh... i will try.

If i remember corectly the place where limewire saves stuff is in C:\Program Files\Document and Settings\[user]\Shared

[user] is your Windows login username

Or maybe C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\shared

So, go there, find the file that you downloaded and right click>extract to>choose your desktop.

however, if the download is in a folder of it's own, open the folder first and then right click any file and choose extract>desktop.

you should then find it on your desktop!

I haven't used limewire in ages, but I think my shared folder was in C:->program files -> limewire -> my shared files.
