Maybe I just don't understand human beings but, What's the deal with crying over some soccer games? I think it happened here in Korea too. I totally understand people crying over human tragedies like 9-11, The Iraq war and The Asian Tsunami, but soccer? WHY? WHY? WHY?

SAO PAULO, Brazil, July 1 (Reuters) - Tears flowed as disappointment gripped Brazil on Saturday after its star-studded World Cup soccer team was beaten 1-0 by France, ending its hopes of a sixth championship.

"This was the worst thing that could have happened -- to lose to France again," said Fabio Santos, 39, a fan in Sao Paulo.

Brazil, which won the previous World Cup championship in 2002 and is the only country to have won five World Cup titles, proudly considers itself a global soccer superpower.

But it lost to France in the 1998 World Cup final and many Brazilians had prayed their team would not be jinxed again when they met France on Saturday in Frankfurt, Germany.

Brazil's team struggled to find its rhythm and a tough French defense quieted Brazilian strikers.

"We're stranded here crying, feeling enormous frustration," said Ricardo Santos, one of the organizers of the cheering section on a Rio de Janeiro street where some 10,000 people watched the game.

Nearby, Julio Gomes, a 30-year-old bank employee, held his weeping girlfriend.

Turns people into big children and is taken far too seriously, but that's both a good and bad thing. The fact that Tuesday night's unmissable Champions League game between Arsenal and Deportivo La Caruna went ahead on 2001/9/11, the fact that the game continued while Liverpool and Juventus fans were being killed in the stands, is a terrible fact about football but a strangely brilliant one.

Bill Shankley (dead soccer God) said "football is never a matter of life and death - it's much more important".

He was joking, and it's obviously untrue, but he did have a point.

I don't know why people cry, but I can understand getting angry and throwing your boots at the TV. Team errors, bad calls by the ref, dirty moves by the players, players not playing at their peak, jealousy directed at the opposing team because their so damn good. I understand anger, but sadness???

The only time I *almost* cried during a sporting event was when I was 12 and watched as Scott Norwood's field goal went WIDE RIGHT.

Some things you can't unsee.

When Oz lost to Italy, I was struck dumb with frustration. There was simply nothing to say. I never felt like that with either footy or cricket. There was always a few expletives spouted at the very least. This one was a total hollow feeling. The sport gets into yer veins and there's a passion involved that can not be learned. It's either there or... it ain't.

You are obviously not a sports fan of any kind, especially football (soccer).

Football for most countries/people in the world is the main sport and is as embedded in their culture as maple syrup is to Canadians, or beef is to Argentineans.

Trying to rationalize why fans of sport are so intrigued, is as futile as trying to explain why your poo stinks!!!

I've gotten emotional about Korean games in crowds of Koreans. I think it's contagious.

We once lost a big game in little league baseball due to a bad foul ball call.
Parents were going postal on the umpire and some of us cried. Maybe a different phenomenon.

I don't know, but seeing the players cry is also ridiculous. I always thought soccer players were a bunch of sissy Prima donnas, but now I know it's true. Fans crying over a sporting event is just ludicrous. On a related note, Koreans have to be the sorest losers in the world.
