Is there anything in Korea that you feel you have experienced so much that you no longer bat an eye when found in that particular situation?
I have a few:
seeing dogs in cages
bewildered stares
taxi drivers
people running red lights
everyone eating out of each others plates
children pointing at me because I look different
seeing a foreigner and not having an urge to say hello
seeing spit all over the street
these are a few. |

smiling faces that lie.
being called old or fat, or whatever would be an insult and not done at home.
dancing girls that look like strippers outside of store openings.
ambulances stuck in traffic.
people who have no sense of personal body space.
cars driving down 'sidewalks.' (my poor sis came to visit me last year, and we were walking back to my place for the first time, off the airport bus, and she freaked out 'cause there was a car following us on the sidewalk, (parking..er trying to get to a parking spot..) behind us. i didn't understand why it was bothering her. but, i guess it's not done at home.) |

| When answering personal questions and then asked, "Why?" in a whiny voice where upon I'd have to be a psychologist or something to reply. Or I'd be incrimating myself in some respect if I gave an honest answer. Then everything turns into one big English lesson that you're not getting paid for. |

| I'm numb to a lot of stuff and don't think its worth getting angry much anymore. however i do sometimes attempt to correct any idiotic behavior. makes me feel better. Children openly pointing and shouting waeguk saram! is especially irritating, and deserves a comeback of some sort. |

It's fun to tell them "Aniyo. Hanguk saram imnida." The confused looks on their faces is priceless. An elderly American friend, now deceased, did that years ago when a group of Korean kids did the usual pointing/calling; as we walked on, we could hear them arguing with each other:
"He said he's Korean."
"He can't be Korean."
"But he said it in our language." |

Today a weird thing happened to me. I was walking down the street with two korean girls and we ran into a bunch of kids. I assumed they were going to say something (they ALWAYS do 'round here), and sure enough one kid did.
He went wide-eyed, pointed and said "Hanguk saram i da!" my girlfriend and her friend cracked up laughing. As did the other kids. I'm not sure whether the kid was a young comedian (seems a bit subtle..) or so shocked at the sight of me he was stumbling with his Korean. Funny though. |

| My arse was getting pretty numb from sitting on the kitchen chair my boss so generously gave me. Now I sit on the corner of my bed and use the computer on top of a short dresser and my legs get numb from leaning on them with my arms while I type. |
