My school has decided against my wishes to have a free talking class during the summer break for students in level Lets Go 3 to Lets Go 6. They're going to be in one class. The book were gonna use is Childrens Talk 2 (LIS Korea, they do the Talk, Express Yourself books). But my director doesn't think this is enough for an hour class and wants supporting material for the topics. Does anyone have any sites that would be good to get these materials. |

1 hour of class?
How many people?
if you have 4 people that gives 15 mins per person, not even taking into account the wasted time.....
i think you might have sufficient material, but nevertheless just google some pictures, pictures tend to make things more clear, ofcourse you need to print them out ... |

Free talking with Let's Go 3? Are they on crack? Really, how much free talking can you get out of "What does he have? Does he have any ____?"
I usually teach the grammar, chorally repeat the questions and answers, call on individual students, then have students make pairs and ask each other questions about the pictures - and it's like pulling teeth just to get them to do that.
If you've got any skills with Microsoft Word and some time you could make some information gap exercises about the grammar point. You could also have them interview each other and/or do the card touch game. Good luck with that! |

My director did the same thing last winter break. It was a nightmare trying to teach anything to them as the kid's talk books are way too freakin' high level for someone in Let's go 3.
The level 6ers, well maybe. If they really are level 6 students that is.
What I ended up doing was quickly run through the lesson from the book..........and then give them worksheets that were more appropriate for their level.
We then rounded out the hour with a game of some sort.
I don't know why it is but even the Korean teachers seem to think that the students should be studying way beyond their proper level. I guess that's why they conduct their classes in about 80% Korean. Sure, the kids understand when everything is explained to them in Korean, but take that away and you find what level they are really at. Most of the students here could stand to drop at least 2 levels if not more.
I'm sure to go through the same circus this summer break.........but they won't listen to anything I say. |
