I'm debating whether to buy a wide-screen monitor or just a standard width one. What advantage do the wide screens have? Wide-screen format DVDs is the only thing I can think of. Are there games or other types of software that can actually run in wide-screen? |

Most new games have a different aspect ratio choice. |

if you don't run a dual monitor system then a sufficiently wide wide-screen monitor would enable you to run multiple applications side by side similar to a dual monitor system.
Tomorrow I go shopping for another monitor to replace my old CRT and am considering widescreen. I would then have a 19" LCD along side a widescreen monitor (haven't yet determined the size) |

I have a widescreen......as already posted in another thread, its actually a Dell 26" HDTV. The max res is only WXGA....but since I've never really used a higher res, I think its great. I often run programs side by side. However....having a daul monitor set up with one widescreen seems pretty rad too. |

I'm ordering the Viewsonic vx2025wm fom Yongsan today. 417,000 won. That's about 100 usd more expensive than the newegg.com price in the States.
Even the Samsung widescreen LCD's I looked at were all roughly 25% more expensive here in Korea compared to North America.
Another example of how Koreans get ripped everyday for consumer electronics.
.......it's a sweet monitor though!!!! |

Wow. First time I've ever quoted myself!!
So, I got the Viewsonic VX2025wm. Widescreen 20.1 monitor. I'm very impressed. Very, very impressed. Games and video have a much more immersive quality now. If you sit at just the right distance from the screen then all your visual range (almost!) is taken up by the screen.
Half-life: Episode One has a virtual movie-like quality. Truly amazing. I haven't even had a chance to try the Prey demo yet!!
In Yongsan (and elsewhere) for 417,000. More expensive than North America but then, Korea sucks for consumer electronics, except PC components. |
