Bridging the Gap - Australians Teaching English in Korea and Thailand
Have you taught English in Korea or Thailand?
Would you like to share your experiences?
Do you have time to complete a questionnaire and/or take part in a short interview?
Angela McLaughlin of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (University of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia) has embarked on a research project for her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) course. It seeks to examine the classroom and cultural experiences of teachers who have been employed to teach English to school-aged children in Korea and Thailand.
Should you be interested, please contact me (Angela) at [email protected] for more information. I really appreciate the time of anyone who is willing to participate.
I am coming to Korea in two weeks for a month, and will be staying in Chuncheon, however I will be able to travel to Seoul/Incheon on weekends to collect any completed questionnaires and consent forms or to hold interviews. I also have time to meet in Sydney or Newcastle before I leave if anyone interested is in the vicinity. I will try to do what I can to keep the costs of postage down, however I can't offer any monetary compensation for participation.

Note: This project has been approved by the Universitys Human Research Ethics Committee (Approval No 010106).
Should you have concerns about your rights as a participant in this research or you have a complaint about the manner in which research is conducted, it may be given to the researchers or, if an independent person is preferred, to the Human Research Ethics Officer, Research Office, The Chancellory, The University of Newcastle, University Drive, Callaghan, NSW (2308), telephone 61 2 4921 6333, email [email protected]

Yes.
If she is looking to speak to any nationality who has taught English in Thailand or Korea why is the title Australians Teaching English in Korea and Thailand?
One wonders who is crazy here.

Oh, bdt...of course I was mocking myself, I even threw the oops emoticon on there.
I think the heat is making us all a little fussy these days. So here are three smileys to exorcise any miscommunication: |

Oops! Sorry. I should have clarified that one. Yes, it is for Australians only (chiefly because when I submitted my ethics approval forms I had no idea I was coming to Korea, and by the time my contract was signed, the final ethics committee meeting had convened for the last time for the semester. Blargh. But thanks to those who have emailed me - I will be in touch ASAP.
Thanks also to all those who post so regularly here - this board has been a wealth of information to start from since I began research in earnest this year. |
