My project for this summer is building a nice balcony garden--like the "well-being" ones the professionals charge 3 million and up for. The lower maintenance the better.
Something like this would be good for growing what kind of plants?

Where are you located?

Hi,

I live in Iteawon.

I use PVC tubes and in general I use 100, 75, 65 cm diameter tubes with holes for 2 and 3 inch netpots. My tubes are generally 130 cm long. I can custom cut almost any size.

I made a nice rack with 7 tubes with a 1M X 1.5 meter foot print. The cukes are growing like wildfire, the tomatoes slower, cabbages are doing well but the bugs eat them. Peppers are doing OK but they are harder plants to grow. Vine fruits AKA melons are not doing well as I had hoped.

The tomatoes need more root space. The best configuration I've seen is in 5 gallon buckets.

I have a daydream about having a hydro business here, I thought the Koreans would love the stuff and it looks like they do.

I looked for along time and but I could not find any hydro retailers. My units do not cost 2-3 million won. A fraction of that.

Yea, I live in iteawon.

If I had a roof, that would definitely be an option . . . What I'm considering is a tiny herb garden, a tree and some leafy plants, a bit of colour, rocks, and a medium goldfish pond w/ mini waterfall, all in a 2.5m x 0.7m x 0.5m balcony box.

I'm starting out as a complete beginner and I realize this is ambitious-do you have any suggestions?

I'd really like something more artistic and pleasing to the eyes. It looks like what you're making is designed for more agricultural/commercial (possibly recreational/medicinal?) applications. Do you make anything that would help me with this?

You want a really nice centerpiece for your garden. You want some landscaping. My units are geared toward high production and low cost. I just made a herb tube but its like the others that is made from PVC pipe.
My guardrail units will have a coulrful coating because PVC quickly turns into an eyesore.

If you want to pursue this, you need to find a container that you'd want to use. Look for some kim chi pots or something close to that you want to use. Try to make it 30 - 40 cm tall and it must be easy to clean. The container must be tall since it will house the feed water resevoir.

There is a hobby that people that some people like called "aquaculture" that uses fish water to feed the plants. You could try that.

Sans that you'll need somw many of hydro.

Again, find a container you want in the garden and we can make a lid and a basket. There are two basket types - a general basket that is large for many small plants for individual net bots. You'll likely want both and we can do that.

Let me know what you find.

Where in Ilsan?

Between Paju and Ilsan on the 900 line (start at Deawha subway station, if you get to see EMart, you went to far. the other side of the street is rice fields.) Its on the west side of the road- there is one very nice but lonely flower shop out in the middle of nothing tel - 946 6116. 시 온 성 flower shop

Yes, the units are ugly - I can put some of those wonderful Korean floor mattings on them so you can have a selection of immitation wood colors if you want.
