Is it ok? I know it wouldn't happen if it were Japan. What about South Korea?

The problem is not so much Korean immigration, which after all have the same rules as USA (for example) for arriving tourists, but with the airline check-in.

Just as with USA, a person arriving without a visa must have a return or onward ticket or run the risk of being refused entry. It is usually left to the airline to police this as they can be subject to a heavy fine if the passenger is refused entry for lack of that outbound ticket. Therefore, they invariably refuse to let you board without proof.

"I am a Brazilian tourist hoping to get a job to teach Portuguese in USA. Will they let me in with no return ticket?". I dunno, what do you think?
