I know this sounds really wild, but all this talk of missiles and CNN profiles of the "hermit kingdom" remind me of a conversation I had in China with an older educated guy on a train. He was kind of pulling my leg, but we did have an interesting discussion.
He saw that I was reading the Lonely Planet, and wanted to see where I had been on the map. He then went on to explain that China's map looked like a rooster. I looked, and indeed it did look like a rooster.
But then I said to him "Too bad Korea wasn't a part of China, then the rooster would have a beak."
He laughed, and went on to tell me that Chinese people were fond of Koreans, and shared a history. He hinted that one day, the rooster would have a beak. I just smiled and nodded, remembering how my Korean ex-girlfriend had told me how Chinese girls rarely washed their hair.
He then explained how the rooster would become hungry. He pointed to Japan, stating "There is the worm."
And I suppose Taiwan is the egg, and Vietnam and Thailand are the feet? And the USA is the final roost? Former Walmart factory workers unhappy about everyday low prices, "washing over the earth" and showing up on American doorsteps holding imitation AK-47s? The "yellow people" in Revelations?
So I asked him when all this would happen. The next time there is the year of the Rooster was his theory. 2016.
So while it is indeed a wild theory, one can't help but think that with China's rough history with Japan, and with its growing rivalry with the US, and with North Korea ruffling feathers, and South Korea just kind of hanging out, that something, eventually, is going to happen. If the shiznit does hit the fan....will it be in the M.E. (its kind of getting old over there) or will it be in Asia? What might be the straw that breaks the camel's back? Or in this case, get the rooster to fly the coupe? |

Manpower and sheer numbers will keep China from being invaded.
Technology and firepower will keep the U.S. from being invaded.
I see China/India and the rest of Asia shoring up relations to become a counterbalance to U.S. supremecy, but I doubt anyone in their right mind will ever try to invade the U.S.
Always remember that besides the world's most powerful military, we also have the most well-armed general population in the world as well.

Do you really need to invade a country to take it over anymore? That's 20th century talk. Saudi Arabia has already taken over a large portion of the US economy without doing much more than giving Bush a dutch rudder. |

Koreans can talk about being independent for thousands of years, but the fact is that most of the past millenium Korea was effectively a vassel of China. China had to relinquish claims over Korea so that Japan could take it over without taking over part of China with the latter losing face. |

Brilliant. In case anyone else didn't know what it was without research:
Dutch Rudder
And I agree with mainland Asia moving more into a defensive block in order to contain the U.S. but I see Oceania, including Australia and Japan, and even New Zealand, getting friendlier with the U.S., leaving Korea with a very, very difficult decision to make... |

THE most? I'd agree with you if you said one of the most, but I think Switzerland takes the cake over the US on this one:
