I know this concerns Gangneung so it will only interest a few people.

It concerns the following ad:-

Positions: Looking for Certified Teachers in Gangneung City ( Beautiful Beaches and Mountains) July 4 - Young-Jae Institute

This ad says they are opening a "new Hagwan" but these guys have been in the game for quite a while - using different names - and burned a few fingers in the process.

The point-man, Jack, is a slimeball. All charm during the interview/negotiations. Once you sign the contract it's a different story. The contract is "mainly for our benefit not yours" he has said to one teacher".

They have fired teachers without warning or payment, refused to pay severance, threatened police action for none existent crimes against teachers asking them to pay money owed, (one owed 1.65 mill, another 1.99), often paid late, set up health insurance late, ignored problems with the accomodation they provided.

Jack told one teacher asking for payment "I'm sick of dealing with you" and another "I hate dealing with ****ing foreigners".

They have also been taken to the Labor Office at least once, where they lost.

Gangneung is supposed to be a good city to live and work in with plenty of good hogwons, so there's no point in signing up for constant headaches, or worse, with these guys.
