I'm looking for some easy to use video editing software. My camera takes short 33 second blips with no sound so I'd like to put a few together with some background music. Any recommendations?

MS Movie Maker is about the easiest one for free! - part of XP SP2, I believe. There is also an excellent support group at http://www.WindowsMovieMakers.NET/Forums/Login.aspx

If I can piggyback my request on yours...............what app (under XP) will let you quickly and easily hack up a feature length movie - want to drop scenes and re-combine it. Most of the ones I tried are too clumsy at handling large files, or much too slow.

Cool. I'll give movie maker a shot. The forum looks pretty good but hopefully the process won't be too complicated anyway. Thanks.

I tried Movie Maker but ran into a problem.....

I use a mini-DV camcorder, like most people nowadays I guess. Canon MV700.

The one hour mini-DV tape in raw form is around 12 gigs. I couldn't make Movie Maker capture my 1 hour tape at a useable compression. Which would be 4.5 gigs so as to burn on to a DVD.

Movie Maker has a lot of options to capture mini-DV but I couldn't find the option which captures it at around 4 gig so I could then burn onto DVD.

Anyone know how?

Kind of unimportant anyway because I'm very happy with the capture and edit software by Nero. Nero 7 premium.

capture the video to dv-avi, edit it and then export the movie to DVD or whichever format you want. Movie maker will then compress the video to fit onto the media of your choice.

Check out the Adobe/Macromedia software that is top-notch. You can download a trial from their site.
