Does anyone have any pointers on showing movies in class and turning it into a productive lesson?
Tomorrow I am going to show Spiderman 2. We will watch the movie for one hour. I will fast forward a little and then discuss the movie for 50 minutes. I am preparing a worksheet with comprehension questions and discussion questions. |

They are intermediate level adults. The students are in a three hour intensive class that focuses on reading, listening, and speaking. So I have comprehension questions as well, so we can work on listening comprehension.
The goal is mainly to discuss the movie and to change things up for a day and hopefully give the students something interesting to discuss. |

I use movies and shows for my adults. The thing is though.. it can get kind of boring for them if you don't mix it up a little.
Make sure your work sheets have a lot of variety to them. |

| We have a special reading comprehension class in the afternoons. We recently finished Robinson Crusoe. After reading it, I showed them parts of the movie Castaway with Tom Hanks. Afterwards, I had them write papers on the similarities of the two. They had to use 5 vocabulary words from the book. They seemed to like it and did a wonderful job on it. |

Well, I usually use a book which is why I am using a movie so the class does not get too boring. We have used the book for 8 class periods so far.
One article was on problems that newlyweds have and I followed that up with a role-play activity the next day. I spent 10 minutes on teaching them certain questions that should be used and then they practiced with a partner. After that they presented their role-play to the class. |
