Sorry, Dokdo CLOSED to tourists.
It used to be open for ferry tours from Ulleungdo but that was discontinued when complaints of environmental damage were cited.
I hear there was a special re-opening once in the last year for some big tour out of Seoul, but setting foot on it is no longer possible.
But this is Korea, so who knows how things might change, legally or not.
But the word from those I've met on Ulleungdo, and I've talked to a few different locals, is that it's closed.
Do Ulleungdo anyways. There's a new fancy Dokpo Museum there. You can take pictures and it'll almost seem like you were there. And Ulleungdo is worth the trip itself, even if rainy as it was for most of my trip.
Tickets to Ulleungdo are easy. Just get to Pohang early morn, before the last-minute Koreans show up. |
