I have been informed by my Korean co-teacher on Friday, that I must submit a 6 page report by 19 July (tomorrow), outlining what I intend to teach over the summer break.

3 pages are required for the normal classes, (grades 4,5, & 6) & 3 pages for the Special class, for the period 25 July to 11 August, & 17 August to 25 August. (1 page for each week, from Monday to Friday). I have a lesson plan up to 2 August for the Special Class, but beyond that, I have no idea what is on the curriculum next semester for either class, & what to compliment it with. I have no previous teaching experience, & did not major in Education. I have only been in Korea 9 weeks. She also requires an appendix of any additional study materials used, & lists of any handout sheets, documents etc used as adjuncts. eg crossword puzzles, word games, materials used etc.

When I asked my co-teacher what she wanted me to teach, her response was "it's up to you", which doesn't help me much. I'm worried that if I start using the 'Lets Go' books, she might then complain they've already done that, & why am I repeating work she's already taught?

The school has a library, but I'd have to guess which level books, are appropriate for which level classes. An easy book for Grade 4 & a harder or longer / more complex book for Grade 6.

I am out of my depth here, & would appreciate any advice. I am in a small town 50 km north of Seoul. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Depends on what level you get. Check out my site for supplemental material. The link is in my signature. Also, sign the guest book if you'd like. Smile

Yeah, I do like the way some schools put responsibility of curriculum design on unqualified teachers. It happens a lot. You really have to think on your feet. But, it toughens you up for the future!!

I guess if it's a summer camp, you don't necessarily have to stick to any text book. Make things as fun as possible and throw in anything you want. Schedule some games, videos, book reading time, writing activities, art and craft, songs. If you do have a text book, just extract the topics of each chapter for a starting point. Or, you can select a theme as a starting point - for example: vacations; city life; life at the ocean...

Are you the only teacher? Can you collaborate with other staff?

Lots of support worksheets can be found. (Check my site also below for list of links)

I don't know how much help this is, but I am also teaching summer classes and I have decided to do two things: For my conversation class, we are going to do a short play/reader's theatre and for my reading class we are going to read "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". When we are finished our classes, we are going to perform the play for parents/teachers/administrators and watch the CCF movie.

If you do a search on the net for reader's theatre, you'll find all kinds of stuff, including lesson plans and scripts. I was amazed at how much was out there.

Good luck! Very Happy

Tnanks for the weblinks, which I've added to my favourites. And yes, I'm the only native speaker at my school.

Cheers
