Hi All,
On my way over to Geoje (Sth Korea) in August, I have a stopover in Vietnam. This will last for two days and the airline pays for accomodation so all I have to think about is food and activities!
I was wondering if there are any Australians or those who know about Australian currency that would be able to tell me if $150 Australian would last me for those two days. I was thinking about getting the money converted before I went so that it saved me hassle while I was there. This would hopefully include enough money for a city tour or something similar.
Also, the person organising the flights has mentioned that I will need to get a visa once I arrive and this will occur at the airport and all I need is two passport photo's. Does anyone know about this and shouldn't there be some sort of fee involved?
Thanks for any help. I'm on my first 'real' trip overseas and want to make sure I have covered all bases. |

I am not Australian (Canadian), but that VISA advice sounds sketchy. Most Vietnamese VISA's take about 9 working days and cost about $45USD (In Korea). Again, I would really double-check about the VISA, you don't want to spend 2 days in the airport.
If you do end up having $145AUS, about $130CDN for two days, you will just about be able to do anything you could possibly want, except stay in the most expensive hotels and eat the most expensive food... you would only be able to do that for one night . Vietnam is cheap, a meal will cost you $1USD. A typical one day tour will cost you $7USD and that is with lunch.
Let me put it to you think way. Last summer, my GF and I went there for 3 weeks, and including everything cent we spent including our flights, we still spent less than $2,000 for two people. Also, we were cheap, we stayed in the nice hotels with kick-butt pools and we never even went near a guest house or hostel. We also did a tonne of shopping to the point where we had to buy another gigantic suit-case.
So, I guess unless your VISA takes a lot of that money, you are golden. Also be prepared that you may need to pay a fee when leaving. I don't know if they do that in HCMC but they do in Hanoi and it cost $14USD. |

Thanks for the info-much appreciated. As you can tell, I haven't travelled much!!
As for the visa, I am checking into that with the agent as we speak.
Thanks again. |
