IF it is the pre-packaged (read processed) type, then yes.
IF it is their mom's own home style or the store's deli style then NO (not legally).
If you are going to Vancouver, you can get it there. 10,000 Korean students in town mean it is available in some of the grocery stores down by the hakwans (ESL colleges) downtown (Robson street area).
In Edmonton, there is a Korean restaurant at the top of Conners hill, just around the corner from the ski hill. They will also sell home style kimchee.
Can't tell you about other cities. |

The "bulgogi house" I think it's called?
Cause in West Edmonton Mall, they have a HUUUUUUGE asian supermarket where you can buy packaged goods.
In St. Albert, there is a guy who sells kimchi at the farmer's market (must be one at the strathcona market too). |

Yeah, a part of me was hoping the answer would be no. Maybe I should say we'll have to wait til we get there and then, before their eyes, Canadian agents can confiscate their tupperwear containers of kimchi and toss it in the bin. I could get some great photos. |

Edmonton also has numerous Korean groceries, such as the one I know on 99th Street and 31 Ave.
The one at WEM is great. People laugh, but it's the dead honest truth; it's where I go when I'm home to buy Asian spices and sauces. I can't get unusual Philippine or Indian ingredients here.
My adult students say it's dead easy to get kimchi in Canada, but NA kimchi is often less fermented. Some people prefer that, others not. In Vancouver it should take about ten seconds to find kimchi in the airport convenience store. Why lug it from Korea?

If you're going to Vancouver and have a Costco card, buy your kimchi there. You get a big container for about $10.
Went to an Asian supermarket and got some kimchi there. About 1/4 the size, $4, and one of my Korean friends said the taste was worse than the Costco kimchi (I would agree, but her opinion is more expert than mine, that's why I mention it). |

This is not Canada, but my husband managed to bring over 2 huge boxes of kimchi to Hong Kong a few years ago - and Hong Kong is known to be very strict about food imports.
We'll never, and I mean NEVER, take Kimchi overseas again. My mother in law, at the request of my own sister (translated to her by the hubby), thought my sister really liked kimchi and made two huge, huge boxes (may be 20l boxes??).. my husband was not very happy to say the least. Not to mention my MIL went to the airport by taxi from Gangnam to deliver those wretched boxes.   
Next time, if my sister still wants kimchi, I will buy her a few gift boxes from the airport. |
