Hey everyone,
I'm leaving this Saturday morning from the U.S. for Seoul. I just received my passport back from the consulate in Chicago with my visa page in it. The problem is that it gives the length of stay as 1yr but gives the end of November '06 (3 months) as the expiration date.
Will this cause any problems? I've been told by another source that I should be okay to go to Korea and begin work, and let the school worry about this.???
I'd just hate to arrive at the airport and then have them not let me on the plane or something because the visa's screwed up.
Should I shut up and not worry about it or what? |

It's OK.
You simply have to enter before expiry of the visa. |

No worry.
Your visa has 2 dates on it.
One is the visa issue date. This is when you got the visa.
One is the visa expiry date. The is last day when you must enter the country.
In between those 2 dates it has the length of your allowed stay (period of sojourn) and that should be 1Y (1 year).
Your VISA is for your ENTRY into the country.
AFTER you get here you will register as an alien; meaning get your ARC (Alien Registration Card). Your ARC is your authorization to STAY in the country.
You are fine and good to go. Have a safe trip.

The posters here are correct and understand the dates perfectly well. Unfortunately the Immigration staff at the airport don't understand so well. Arriving will be no problem for you. When I left the country for winter break, the immigration people told me that I needed a reentry permit as this visa had expired. They even stamped my visa void. I explained that the "expired" date means first day to enter Korea by, and then the visa is good for one year after that. We went back and forth with various levels of command before someone from the "front office" called to explain about the visa. The Immigration then wrote a few sentences on the visa in Korean to explain it to other Immigration officers in the future.
Anyway, you are fine to come in. When you go out (do you have multiple entry?), you may have to do some explaining. The people in the Immigration front office (near the check in counters) are more aware of the visa validity than people in the office near immigration check point.
