The wiki right now is over 3,800 articles and the English section still needs a lot of information, but as it uses the same software as Wikipedia does it's quite easy to add on sections for the same information in other languages. An article on Seoul for example would have this little thing on the bottom:
[[es:Se�l]]
which would link it to the page in Spanish on the same place, and likewise on the bottom of the Spanish page would be a link with:
[[en:Seoul]]
linking it back to the English one. The other language doesn't have to be as big as the English version; articles can be of any length so even something like this would be acceptable at first (just not very useful):

Other languages could be present too so you might have a list like the following:
[[es:Se�l]]
[[ja:ソウル]]
[[zh:首而]]
that sort of thing. It's nothing urgent, but I thought I would let people know ahead of time. If I get at least five people interested in writing in a language then I'll make the request to get the change made so that other language editions can begin. It takes time to write content though, so I wouldn't want people who just think it might be interesting to write in another language version, but rather people who themselves or have friends that are always grouching about how there's no information on Korea in German, French or whatever.
And don't forget that it's not merely a wikipedia-type thing but also functions as a dictionary, and you can also put up documents and books from governments/without copyright in as long as they pertain to Korea.
There's a book here for example called
Verhaal van het vergaan van het jacht de Sperwer
En van het wedervaren der schipbreukelingen op het eiland Quelpaert en het vasteland van Korea (1653-1666) met eene beschrijving van dat rijk
which has a lot of good information, but it's not in English so we haven't put it up. If five+ people wanted the wiki in Dutch as well then up it goes, because it's in the public domain. |

In English it's a very interesting book! It's about some Dutch guys who got stranded in Korea in the 17th century. The koreans didn't want the foreigners getting out of the country and spreading Korean secrets so they made them stay in Korea. They were here for about 15 years (the few who survived). They stayed in Jeju-do for a while, then moved up to Seoul for a bit, before being exiled to Jeollanam-do. A few of them lived in Suncheon city for a while, and the rest were in another couple of cities I can't remember the name of. You can read the book in English online, do a search for "The journal of Hamel and korea" or something like that. I'm not sure if the English translation is out of copyright. They eventually bought a fishing boat and escaped to Japan.
EDIT: To save you the effort of searching for the book I bothered to check my bookmarks, so now I can give you a direct link: http://www.hendrick-hamel.henny-savenije.pe.kr/index.htmThere's lots of other information about Hamel and his other shipwrecked buddies there too. Stuff like the fact they fathered a bunch of children and are probably responsible for the blue-eyed gene which crops up in Jeolla from time to time and other interesting things.

Okay, I think I'll take a look at it then. I like Dutch and Afrikaans so I'd want to try to struggle through it in the original language.

Not sure if you have a link on your wiki, and this is kind of off-topic, but my absolute favorite free book on the internet about Korea is "Corea or Cho-sen: Land of the Morning Calm" by an English dude who traveled to Korea in the early 1890s called A. Henry Savage Landor. I'm using excerpts from the book in an advanced discussion class tomorrow in fact.
He bitches about Korean (donkey)driving, gets pissy at the Japanese who he reckons are going to try and take over the country, talks about Korean women's mistrust of 'foreign devils', about how Koreans don't want korean money leaving the country, how he hates ondol heating, how Incheon will probably become an important port and lots of other prescient topics.

The writer also lived in Japan (with the 'Hairy Ainu'), traveled througout Asia and Africa and designed tanks in the first world war. He wrote a whole bunch of other books but I haven't been able to find them on the internet yet. |

Oh! That's great. That book slipped under my gaze because I was searching with a K the whole time. Nice. I think I'll put it up on the wiki tomorrow. Thanks a lot.
