Summer intensive starts soon

This includes a weekend where I have to go with the kids and play games at a resort. I am the only foreign English teacher at my school (and even when I am with the other Korean English teachers, they speak Korean). So this weekend is going to suck.

On one hand, it's fun for the kids and it's only one weekend. I'm sure I will learn some Korea.

On the other hand, I am the only foreign person in my area and there is NO social life apart from the weekend. So a weekend with the Korean kids means about 2 weeks of no social interaction with people who can speak English.

How much do you think I should ask for this weekend? My contract says I get 24,000W an hour for weekend work.

You signed a contract that allowed weekend work? Hopefully, you didn't and you can just tell them that you don't work on weekends. (then name a ridiculous price if you agree to go against the terms of your contract).

If your contract does allow weekend work.I would ask to be paid from teh time you leave the school to the time you return. 24 hours, not just the 8 or so that are actually scheduled times. That is about 1.1 million won assuming you are there 48 hours. Pretty sweet.

If you like your school and they're willing to do favours for you, and if it's just one weekend a year, do it for free. It's better to feel like a teacher than a mercenary.

Don't know exactly your job situation, what do you have to do at the resort? Be a chaperone or actually teach/entertain the kids? How many kids are going? Are you the only one?

Personally, I think this is different than any regular work, even if it is weekend work. If you are going alone, I'd push for 50,000 an hour and say it's because of the difficulty of the job, no free time, and no help. If you are actually teaching during this time or have a very large group, (more than 10) ask for more money. How are the kids like? Do you know who's going?

I got my girlfriend to look at the promotional leaflet for the weekend.

Weekend includes ....

Swimming with the foreigner ( I have a huge tattoo that they dont know about that covers my shoulder, upper arm and chest.)

Eating a meal with the foreigner

Orienteering with the foreigner (this might be hell.)

Situation roll-play (when you see doctor, at the airport etc)

It's Saturday, Sunday and come home on Monday.

The charge is 90,000 a kid.

I like the kids (most of them). I have been asked to come up with ideas for games that the kids can play. Obviously the games should include some English. Any ideas? I can't think of many games for kids that work on English skills...I just used to play "running and screaming until your sick."

Red Rover, Red Rover is a fun one. A little dangerous but we all know koreans don't care about that.

_____ tag. We used to play TV tag. Its like regular tag, but if you screamed out a TV show right before "It" touched you, then you couldn't be frozen. You could modify it for pretty much any vocabulary set.

Treasure hunt with a 3 hour time limit. Have them run wild doing whatever they want, supposedly looking for the items on their list, while you kick back in a chair waiting for them to bring back their haul.
