So I just got a call at 12:30 am informing me my Visa was DENIED because my sealed transcripts weren't sealed enough. Now they want me to go back to my university and get them properly sealed !!! I'm so angry. When I requested my transcripts I asked for them to be sealed and in individual envelopes. Fedex already charged me $90 dollars to send my stuff in the first place now I will have to pay it again and hope that everything will be ok after that. Has anyone ever encountered this problem before??? And does anyone know which company is cheaper DHL or Fedex to ship from Canada?

It has happened to 7 of my last 20 teachers.
It is the most infuriating thing.
I feel for you.
It stuffs everyone around and everyone is out of pocket. Teacher and school.
The only ones who don't give a toss are the immigration officers.

Simple solution to the problem.

Get copies made up the way they want them.

Place them in a larger envelope.

Go to the post office (or retail postal station).

ASK for a "green customs sticker" at the post office counter.

On the sticker mark the contents as "DOCUMENTS" and a cost of $0.

Put the sticker on the large envelope (that has your sealed transcript envelopes inside).

Send via Canada Post AIRMAIL. It only takes a week, costs less than $2 and won't get opened by anyone.

I had mine sent by regular airmail USPS and they were fine. Cost me nothing (besides the request fee) and they were here in about 12 days or so.

FEDEX and UPS in Korea - do have an annoying habit of opening things to see what is inside. Had a similar problem myself.

Go with EMS instead.

When I was sending mine away the courier told me it's company policy to open every parcel...I almost had a heart attack but then she saw the state of me and so she just felt it up a bit (the parcel) and sent it on it's merry way.
Make sure you reinforce the need for it to be sealed on arrival to the courier person.
Good luck for round 2!

I guess I should clarify I don't think my transcripts were opened before they reached the people who do the visas what they told me was they wouldn't accept them because there wasn't a sticker on the back of the envelope so I called the Univeristy this morning and she told me they don't put stickers on the backs of them or seals so now I have no idea what they expect!!!!

Maybe get them to put one of those sticky mailing address thingies on the back and have the registrar write their name across it? Or, "Void if altered or tampered with" or sth like that. Make one yourself and bring it in to them.

I used Canada Post and had no problems. I didn't use the regular shipping but did the express one.

The "sealed" transcript does seem to be a problem these days. One other note, I have also seen transcripts rejected recently because they didn't have four years of coursework listed. So if you went to community college for your first two years, you should make sure to send both transcripts.

I have a bunch of original transcripts I got printed up last time I was in America. At the bottom, it says,
Quote:
This officially sealed and signed transcript is printed on blue Scrip-Safe security paper with the name of the university printed in small type across the face of the document. A rasied seal is not required. When photocopied the word COPY should appear. A BLACK ON WHITE COPY SHOULD NOT BE ACCEPTED.

Considering the first six words, is there any chance that immigration might take this, especially considering I've been teaching here legally with the same transcripts since 1997??

My registrar signs her name across the seal and puts a college stamp on it. I've never had any problems.

Do you have a web site for EMS? Googling only came up with references to it, not their web site.
