|
|
I'm thinking of heading to Beijing in May and want to hike the Great Wall for 4-6 days or so. I've been checking on the net for tours but they all seem outrageously expensive for single travelers.
Is it easy enough to book something locally in Beijing for cheaper?
Is it possible to set out on my own, staying in guesthouses along the way? I'd also be willing to bring my tent and camp but I'm not sure if there's facilities for that.
If on my own, my tentative plan is to walk from Simatai to Gubeikou one day 1. Then Gubeikou to Mutianyu on day 2. Day 3 is Mutianyu to Juyungguan or Badaling.
Anyone with experience in this? Help me out |

Are you a really good billy-goat / mountain goat?
Most of that trek is straight up - straight down and not even close to being anything close to a level walk.
Power to you .....
And you can find an English speaking guide in Beijing for about $10 per day plus bus fare, food and lodging. |

| I've hiked a lot...let's just say that! So I'm not too worried about the actual hiking, it's more the logistics of it that I'm interested in. |

I don't think you can walk on the great wall.. it's blocked off outside the regular tourist areas.. hmm... and I'm pretty sure you might have trouble walking anywhere near it, as unusual activity is "scrutinized"
and YES, it is pretty much straight up and down |
