Hi all

This topic has been discussed before I'm sure but I can't find the threads.

I'm out of here in 4 weeks. I'm teaching up until just before I leave for the airport. My boss will owe me my bonus plus the final month salary and 4 days of extra work beyond my contract. He's always paid me on time before but...

My question is... are they allowed to pay this after the teacher has left the country? I sure hope not because I fully intend to close my bank account here!

I have always received my full pay and bonus, etc., in the last week of employment with no problem. Your boss should be fully capable of doing so, but he will probably not be proactive about it, so you need to start "reminding" him now.

If you have 4 weeks left, reminding should turn to hounding in 10 days.

Good luck.

hi snow.

Our last two bonuses were paid in the middle of the month it was due (due at the end of the month). Like Float one said, there shouldn't be a problem.

Do not leave yourself this vulnerable to getting screwed out of your last month's pay and airfare.

Get your flight date changed to a few days to a week after you finish teaching, and have your visa extended to match if need be (with a plane ticket in hand, you should be able to get up to 30 days from immi). Use the time to say goodbye to friends, pack, shop for souvenirs, travel to Chejudo, whatever. If need worst comes to worst, you can also use this time to fight for and collect your final pay.

I have no way of knowing if your boss plans to do the honorable thing or not, but if he doesn't, being locked in to leave the day you finish teaching makes it way too easy for him.

Thanks

I trust my boss. I just wondered what the norm is regarding this. I don't think he'll try to cheat me.

I have always been paid my final pay and severance on the 2nd last day of my contracts. That leaves me time to deal with the banking before I theoretically leave the country.

It is a simple question is to ask your boss if he would be so kind as to accomodate you and pay it all a day early so you can take care of your banking and wire it home to close your affairs here before you have to leave.
