I'd like to know what is considered a teaching hour by your school or hagwon.
I work at two different elementary schools and a hagwon. The hagwon owner seems to think an hour is simply an hour (60 minutes), but the elementary school are like an hour is one class, which is 40 minutes.
How is it where you teach? |

| how long a "teaching" hour is should be spelled out in your contract. If it isn't then 60 minutes equals one hour. However it is customary to have 40 minutes equal one hour when teaching children and 50 minutes for adults. |

Superhero is correct. Each contract defines a teaching hour differently, so pay attention to this when you sign. As far as I know, there is no law dictating the subject.
FWIW, the last time a worked in a kiddie hogwon, a 40 minute class was paid as 40 minutes, not an hour.
The school I work for now (uni hogwon) pays a class as an hour. Some of my classes are 45 minutes, some are 50 minutes.
In both cases, it's been specified in the contract.

| When I worked at a hagwon it was one teaching hour is 60 minutes in the classroom. At the public school, one hour is one class. |

50 minutes at my hagwon. It's kind of much to be teaching 50-minutes straight to children though. I usually leave 10 minutes for fun.
Adult classes are the same, but if they're paying you enough, they might expect you to teach more. I hate that. They try to milk every second out of you. I just yell out "Ok, that's all all folks!"
Should be in your contract. Hagwons should be 50 minutes and public schools are usually 40, I think.
You don't want 40-minute classes at a hagwon. Could mean you'd end up teaching more classes. Not good. 50 minutes is perfect. |

| Generally at elementary school it's 40 minutes, middle school 45 minutes, and high school 50 minutes. Hogwans make up the rules as they go along. |
